The whereabouts of the body of Tanner Stanton is known. There is a circular water motion at the "falls" where he fell in. It starts with the water falling in, that's a downward force from the water, the water then moves out at the bottom of the creek because as water fills in it must go somewhere, and as it escapes the flow of the fall it pushes upwards also. Then the low pressure because of the water being pushed away takes effect pulls back towards the fall near the surface and then completes the circle and is pushed back down to start over. Even the strongest of swimmers cannot escape from this water movement without outside help such as an object to grab or another person throwing a life line, or even being attached to the line in some situations and grabbing the victim to then be pulled out by a 3rd individual. The unusually rapid pace of the current and higher than usual waters have intensified this in the small drop that it is excessively violent and exceptionally harmful as it is such a small area, where as the unfortunate victim is being tossed and turned in a very tight pattern, very close to the creek bottom, the wall of the drop off and any other obsticals concieled beneath the treacherous waters. The body hasn't moved from its continous cycle, and no divers can manage to remove Tanner before they become exhausted and must retreat. Divers don't expect to be able to make any progress unless conditions change, particularly the water level, due to this unfortunate phenomena.

Tanner was a wonderful kid! My son was good friends with him. Tanner and a friend were walking accross a spillway dam with higher waters then normal and of couse the cement was slimy and the other kid fell and when he did Tanner's instincts kicked in and he grabbed the other boy and yanked him out he did not go in the water he was already in water that was going over the dam...After he got him up he slipped and went over the dam. It is very deep there and there is a whirlpool that sucked him under. Even a very strong swimmer wouldn't have been able to do anything. My son was told by one of the other two boys who were on the bank that he did re-surface and it appeared that he was standing on somthing and that he smiled really big but then was sucked back under. When this happened one of the boys on the bank took their cell phone and ran to the top of the hill and called 911...Tanner surfaced again and was hanging onto a piece of rebar and one of the other boys went to the vehicle to try and find something which he found a drop cord and was trying to toss it to Tanner but it wasn't long enough so Tanner let go of the rebar to swim for the drop cord and just as the police arrived he was sucked under and never resurfaced. They are 90% sure he is under the dam in the whirlpool and the current is so strong with the flood waters that they can't get to him. it was a tragic accident..it was a spur of the moment action of teenage boys...Do you remember being a teen? Teen's take chances...Do you know why? Well they do it because the rational decision making area of the brain doesn't mature until your past your teenage years. That's why so many teens do things that are irrational to us adults. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Tanner's family and all of his friends...Tanner will always be loved and his memories will be tresured.

The recovery attempt for this has gone on way too long, and what I want people to start asking is why has the local sheriff denied the request for State help in the recovery of his body? Despite the severity of the water with the current, this is a very small body of water. State rescue teams could of easily and quickly retrieve him with the right equipment and put the tragedy to end for the family. Instead, it appears the local sheriff has refused assistance from the state and took it upon himself to do the recovery efforts. They've had several windows of opportunity between the rise and fall of the water levels to accomplish this with methods of netting and throw-lines but it appears the local county officials lack the equipment and keep pro-longing this for reasons that are unknown. There are alot questions coming about from all this, as I think this was a very poor recovery effort and saddens me a great deal to understand how they can try and take upon themselves to recover the someone's son. Who are they to deny assistance from anyone? Especially the state, I hope some good comes out of this as I just can't imagine the pain and horror if I knew this and it was my son or daughter.

Thank you both for your Post. I had no idea anonymous #1 that anything like that existed.

We all have done things as teens and beyond that looking back we realize that we were lucky. That is one of the reasons it's so hard when things like this happen especially to our youth. There have been so many in just the past few months, so many families lives changed forever. My deepest condolences to both of these families.
Anonymous #2 thank you for taking the time to post the events of that tragic day and for sharing your feelings with us as well.

I cant imagine how hard it would be knowing Tanner is still in the water. Last week we lost my husbands brother in the Nodaway river. It was a few hours before they found him and it felt like forever. Knowing he was still in the river and not knowing where he was. I know what the family is going through. I will keep them in my prayers. I know how heart wrenching it feel and how helpless it feels when you cant do anything to help. I feel your pain.

What anonymous says is true! As of early this morning,Harrison county had yet to make a call for asitance from the State recovery team. Troop H explained to my daughter that on these kinds of waterways the state waits for a call from the Sheriff for help???? Thank you Troop H and KQ2 for hearing our pleas for help for this so pain stricken family.

As a parent, I could not imagine being able to function at all knowing my child was trapped underneath the water with no way for anyone to get to them. Thank the good Lord above for sending help to this family who has had to endure such grief of not only losing a son but having to fight to get help to rescue him. Thank you all for keeping myself and readers updated and for your part in getting the word out so that his family and his friends can have the closure that they deserve.

Thank you for the post and responses. My daughter lives in Bethany and had called me to tell me about the situation on Monday night. I have tried to find out through the internet what the outcome was and today just found out that Tanner's body was recovered. Thanks to the person who responded with that information.

Our prayers are being lifted for this family over this tragic event. Life is full of whys and this is one of them!

My name is Taylor Gates and i went to school with Tanner when we were younger. He is one of those people that could always make you laugh! Even when you are seconds from balling your eyes out because everything in life keeps building up, tanner could say something so funny that you could forget about all the bad things. We will all miss tanner.
