The Joplin Globe has announced the winner of this year's Spelling Bee. It is none other than Monett resident and Trinity Lutheran School fifth grader Christopher Smith. He correctly spelled the words litterateur and basilica to win the championship! (And yes, I did spell check for accuracy.)
Christopher is the son of a fellow colleague at the high school here in town which makes the win that much more personal. I even met the champion earlier this year when he sold me a tin of caramel corn. No word yet on what the Smith family plans to do next. I think Disneyland is a good idea, but I will keep that to myself.
